Tower in top center was on off limits side of Phan Thiet. I always wanted to go over but Dick Love had everyone convinced it was a VC R&R center. Maybe he was right.

Helicopters, at least the guns, were kid magnets.
This photo was taken at Song Mau. We spent a lot of time there - waiting. We’d put out a recon patrol in the morning. They’d recon for a while; if they didn’t find anything, we’d pick them up and put them someplace else. If they did find something, we’d do a CA.

Visiting 345 viewsBob Kelly Photo

I was honored to be allowed to visit inside the home at rear. Very neat and organized. Sleeping mats rolled up and put up. Clean dirt floor. Cooking items. Cooking area. I was very careful in asking permission using hand signs and some English. I believe they understood I was trying to better understand their culture.

Market with shoppers345 viewsBob Kelly Photo

Phan Thiet market with shoppers. Rare shot of a venders face. Squash, greens and white hunks which are probably rice or cheese product.

Fire Starting to Smolder345 viewsJohn LaDue Photo

From Bob Kelly: " Both of our hydraulic systems were shot out and being a charlie model we lost control. The nose pitched up then we rolled to an inverted position. Our instuctors were right. A Huey will not fly upside down. This was not a thick jungle and you can see from the pictures there was plenty of bare ground to hit. We got lucky and our fall was broken by a tree. Otherwise I would not be writing this!"
