From Bob Kelly: " Both of our hydraulic systems were shot out and being a charlie model we lost control. The nose pitched up then we rolled to an inverted position. Our instuctors were right. A Huey will not fly upside down. This was not a thick jungle and you can see from the pictures there was plenty of bare ground to hit. We got lucky and our fall was broken by a tree. Otherwise I would not be writing this!"

From Bob Kelly: "After shoot down - we had just reached a creek bed 50 feet away and took cover a short time before our huey blew up as shown in this picture. I was crouching and Jim as standing. The concussion from the blast knocked us both to the ground. There were three Purple Hearts awarded.Feb 04, 2010
