50 Year Anniversary

The occasion for this get together was the 50th Anniversary of an incident on Dec 8th, 1967 near Phan Thiet Vietnam. The two men in the back row center Steve Davidson, and Jerry Bonham were shot down in a hill top landing zone, and spent the night engaged in a heavy firefight. Steve provided essential life saving medical care to Jerry. Our Wounded Warrior Hero on the bottom right Herschel Ryan and our departed buddy Neal Heape rescued the crew the next morning. The rest of the men shown, Chuck Bell, Clyde French, Rod Estrada, Mike Dubberly, Joe Zigler, Al Scotty Collgan, participated all night in combat assault support for the crew and troops engaged against a numerically superior and heavily armed entrenched enemy. The issue was resolved by close air support, artillery, napalm, and the guts and bravery and leadership of the 1CAV infantry.
